Advance Your Investigations: An LEWeb Success Story

During the last year, our office began using REJIS Mobile Ticketing to replace existing paper citations and a limited deployment of an e-ticket solution from another vendor. Significant benefits, in addition to the cost savings, include access to LEWeb by deputies in the field using their MDTs. Our team is now able to use LEWeb to supplement dispatch inquiries via radio.

Shortly after attending REJIS inquiry training, one of our deputies was working her shift when her patrol car was struck by another vehicle. The car was disabled, and the suspect striking vehicle fled the scene. While awaiting arrival of assisting units, our deputy located the front license plate of the suspect vehicle laying in the roadway.

From her disabled patrol, our deputy completed a hot file and Department of Revenue (DOR) state vehicle record inquiry, and located an address associated with the suspect vehicle plate in DOR records, which turned out to be outdated.

Fortunately, our deputy had been trained on the REJIS Locator Service. She used the service to investigate locally created records to find an address associated to the suspect, which was recent and nearby. Our deputies were able to contact the suspect driver, who was impaired, and arrest him for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Our office has found LEWeb to be an indispensable tool for patrol deputies. They’re able to conduct inquiries without depending on dispatchers, receive information instantly on their MDT, and are able to “dig deeper” at the very early stages of investigations.
