The Firearm Inquiry Statistics (FIST) project was launched in 1995 as a joint effort between REJIS and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). Developed to provide a national estimate of the number of firearm transfer and permit applications received and denied pursuant to federal and state laws, the project also collects data on reasons for denials of firearm applications and on law enforcement actions against denied persons. The project has produced numerous publications, including a series of reports entitled Background Checks for Firearm Transfers. For more information and a partial list of publications, visit the BJS website.

REJIS is managing policy development, vendor selection and testing, and video storage. After a final device is selected, we’ll begin training on BWC policy and use of the devices.
